getting in tense

You may have noticed that my last two short stories were written in present tense. You may have also not noticed, unless you’re me, that the current novel project has so far been sketched out using present tense.

You may have also also noticed, because apparently you’re Sherlock God damn Holmes, that my oldest stories are mostly in present tense before abruptly pivoting to past tense. Why is that?

Well, in simple terms, that was because I thought it was more writery. If it’s good enough for Tolkein… And then I just kept doing it because I forgot the intial justification and figured I knew what I was doing when I started doing it.

Dumb.

Silly.

Anyway I don’t have a proper conclusion, other than priming you to expect more “says” and less “said” in the future. Also literary standards are more like guidelines. Be yourself.
