ONE MONTH LATER

“Okay crew, pay attention,” The managing staff started calling us ‘crew’, I guess to improve solidarity or something, “Unfortunately you heard the news about our operations being leaked to the general public. Despite our ministry being on public record, we have only attained an unacceptable level of public outrage now.”

The man was practically frothing at the mouth sending this announcement over the intercom. All of our programs had been remotely shut down so that we could all listen to this lunatic, “A secret program had been sent via an, I’m sure for you, interesting phone call which you all forwarded to the automated management system…” It IS a robot, Ronny owes me twenty. “…and this program caused all logged conversations and their ratings to be released to the public. As such, we have been forced to restructure and most of you will not be retaining your jobs.”

Almost immediately, I heard the shuffling of chairs moving and desks being cleaned, as if these people had been just waiting for the opportunity to leave their whole lives. To be fair, so had I. I didn’t have anything besides paperwork I was diligently not doing, so I packed my messenger bag and just left.

Near the full-to-bursting time card holder Ronny motioned me over to him, “So, what’s your plan now?”

I looked around the oppressively grey office complex, only being brought back to reality by the ding of the elevator, “I don’t know, as long as I never work at a place like this.”
